I'm sometimes still surprised at how surprised I am that I'm "the mom." Annie's going to be four soon, and this week I was caught offguard with that overwhelming feeling. We are planning a vacation and, since we're planners, we have been looking at websites, planning routes and discussing hotel options. Suddenly I realize I'm "the mother" and I'm in charge of this family having fun.
Then Annie spilled lincoln logs on the floor, and she started to play with something else. I started to tell her to pick up her lincoln logs and I realized I'm "the mom" who is in charge of the lincoln logs being picked up.
I'm in charge. We're in charge.
We're the parents.
You would think I would be used to this by now.
